Who are alumni and alumnae? Everyone who has spent at least six month at one Max Planck Institute or one of the affiliated structures. This includes all researchers (doctoral students, postdocs, group leaders, directors, visitors, either under contract, stipend, or third-party funding) and staff members.
All people who are still working at the Max Planck Society can also apply for membership to the association, but with certain limitations (e.g. they cannot attend the Assembly of the association).
